I think that this quote means that you need to associate with quality people for your own reputation because if someone doesn't know you but they know how your friend's are and the people around you they're going to think that you are like them but I’m believe that you make your own reputation for how you act , the things you do , if you are a bad person or not you make your own reputation not your friends but also is important to look at who you hang out with because they can influence you to do bad things or maybe good things so the people who you associate with has a lot of influence how the people think that you are and your reputation and I’m agree is better to be alone than in bad company and sometimes is better to be alone because it gives you some time to be who you are.
